Sports Field Line Marking for playing
Sporting events are a part of regular life with athletics, football, javelin and other track and field events being made popular in schools and as a way of earning. The fields used for all these outdoor events need to be specially adjusted so that they can suit the events which they are meant for. Such is the case when it comes to sports field line marking.
A sport field is used to define an outdoor playing area for various sports. The surface of the pitch is made out of grass or race tracks which can be artificial. Different sports that are performed on fields require different sports field line marking. For the purpose of this article, the marking of a football field will be looked at.
A football field requires two goal posts on two opposing ends of the field. A line of demarcation has to be drawn to divide the field equally for the two opponents. So how then do you start out the sports field line marking of a football field?
• Use a string line to make sure you have 100 meters mapped out in length for the goal line while the width should be 60 meters.
• To obtain a right angle for the goal line, the 3,4,5 triangle technique should be implemented at each corner of the goal line ensuring that they are about 105 meters in length equally.
• After performing this at each of the ends, it leads to a rectangular box. To check accuracy of measurement, the length of each diagonal should be measured.
• For the marking of the middle point, the 90 degrees point of the post, white lines are used to show the demarcation.
The purpose of sports field line marking is to avoid confusion during the sporting events. It creates awareness on the part of the competitors on the side of the field they should be on and how not to encroach on another’s territory. For track events like running, the marking is done on the track to demarcate the track into 8 equal columns with each runner having their own line. For football, it demarcates the line of the field each opponent has and where their defences will be line-up. For cricket, it shows batting lines, out zones and the likes.
Unmarked fields for sporting events cause confusion amongst the contestants and for professional events, it is unlikely that there would be an unmarked field as regulating committees like IAAF and FIFA will not allow for it.
