Training Video Production: Essential things to know

The cyber space has multiplied itself manifolds over the past few decades and modern virtual methods of training has received a boom that has seen new methods of teaching and training, utilizing the virtual domain at its fullest. A very popular and friendly medium here is the use of video for training purposes. One of the major reasons for the use of videos is that they are extremely good tools to engage the trainee and ensure an online training session. But these videos do not simply present the matter. Rather, a structured setup and approach to pull out the best possible effects out of this whole audio visual mode of engagement is aimed for. Training video production can be of great help in this regard.

Planning

The first thing to do while producing a training video is laying out a plan for the whole work at hand. This includes a proper layout of the course, subject matters, length of the video, shooting locations et al. It is important to take a note of the trainees and understand their need.

Designing the Video

The video needs to be designed meticulously. The topics of training should be introduced properly before moving into deeper discussions. Also, an instructor in the video with proper interactive qualities help, since the presence of this instructor increases the engaging factor. Simply putting, the instructor creates a connection.

Pre-production

The importance of this phase in the production of a training video lies in setting up the tone for the actual shooting of the video. This is the time when one should get the elements to be placed in the video ready and practiced. A good practice session with the instructor and other relevant elements will go on to ensure a compact and no nonsense shooting session.

Shooting

Once the camera starts rolling, it is rush time in the training video production since a lot of things need to be looked after. Preferably, the length of the single shots should not be too much as this will add pressure to the instructor who will feel more like he is acting. The camera positioning and its handling also need to be looked after.

Post-production

Editing is a very important part of this whole setup especially since this is the step that decides what stays and what does not. Taking notes during the last two sessions can be of immense help. Also, the cameraman should preferably be present during the editing since it was also through his eyes and his vision that the production of the training video occurs.

The simple steps are a guideline that should be helping in training video production. Nevertheless, it is not an absolute guideline and thus difficulties can pop up. Yet, a careful thought or a diligent planning should get one through it.
